Solidarity visit to the Elbit factory in Ulm. Together with the dean of Ulmer Münster, Dr. Thorsten Krannich, I visited the Elbit factory in Ulm, whose production facilities were vandalized by violent offenders. Their violent actions are reminiscent of the worst anti-Semitic riots in German history—we condemn this.

For Hamas, this German decision is likely to be more than just a small political success. I believe it is wrong to partially suspend arms deliveries to Israel. This decision carries the risk that Germany will contribute to Israel's political isolation in this brutal conflict. Der deutsche Bundeskanzler, Friedrich Merz, bekräftigt, dass die Bundesreplublik Deutschland jetzt und für alle Zeit an der Seite Israels steht. Er spricht seine Erleichterung darüber aus, dass die letzten 20 überlebenden Geiseln, unter denen sich auch vier Deutsche befinden, freigelassen wurden. In diesem Kontext erklärt er: "Wir sind nach wie vor in Gedanken an der Seite der Opfer. Viele sind noch nicht aus dem Gazastreifen geborgen worden". Die Versicherung, dass die Bundesregierung gedanklich an der Seite der israelischen Opfer des Angriffes vom 7. Oktober 2023 speziell der Geiseln stehe, steht im starken Kontrast zu seinen Äußerungen bzw. Nichtäußerung über Opfer aus Gaza. Eine spezifische Benennung der palästinensischen Opfer aus Gaza findet nicht statt. In seinem Pressestatement kommen die Worte Palästina oder Palästinenser überhaupt nicht vor. Er sichert lediglich "den Menschen, die dort immer noch leben" medizinische Hilfe und ein Dach über dem Kopf zu. Die Bundesrepublik Deutschland käme damit ihren humanitären Verpflichtungen nach. Ansonsten tauchen die zehntausenden Toten und noch mehr Verwundeten Palästinenser aus dem Gazastreifen lediglich als "viele unschuldige Menschenopfer" auf, sind also hier lediglich mitgemeint. In the context of October 7, blame reversal most often takes the form of accusations of genocide. Instead of directing these accusations at Hamas, whose atrocities bear eliminatory and genocidal traits, the intention and execution of genocide is projected onto Israel and its military actions in Gaza. References to the suffering of the Palestinian population often serve as a pretext for seemingly legitimate, but essentially anti-Semitic “criticism.” The actual cause, Hamas' terrorist attack on Israel, has been and continues to be ignored. Even in parts of the media and politics, it is rarely mentioned that Hamas abuses civilians in Gaza as human shields and therefore bears responsibility for civilian casualties.

Graz (OTS) - On October 12, 2023, a notice of assembly entitled “Current developments in Israel/Palestine based on fundamental solidarity with the severely oppressed Palestinian people” was received by the LPD Styria as the local security authority for Graz. As required by law, every notified assembly is subject to individual review by the local security authority (Einzelfallprüfung). Such a review has now determined that the assembly notified for October 14, 2023, in Graz must be prohibited. The reason for this is the expected threat to public order and safety.
